About PMDD

Understanding PMDD

PMDD is a severe hormonal condition that goes far beyond typical premenstrual symptoms, causing intense mood changes, anxiety, and depression in the luteal phase.

PMDD affects around 5–8% of women and people who menstruate. It causes intense mood changes, overwhelming anxiety, deep depression, and irritability that significantly disrupt daily life.

Many people with PMDD feel like a completely different person for one to two weeks each month. Relationships, work, and daily life can feel impossible during flare-ups, yet the condition is often misunderstood.

Many people with PMDD feel isolated and invalidated. Specialised counselling provides validation, understanding, and practical strategies to help you manage PMDD effectively.

With evidence-based approaches like CBT and DBT, combined with lived experience, you can build practical strategies for managing the emotional and psychological impact of PMDD.

Our counselling approach

As a PMDD counsellor with lived experience, I bring both professional training and personal understanding to our sessions. I know what it feels like when your own cycle becomes your biggest challenge — the frustration, the guilt, the exhaustion of explaining it to people who don't understand.

Using evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), we work together to build practical strategies for managing the emotional and psychological impact of PMDD. This means identifying patterns, building emotional regulation skills, developing self-compassion, and creating communication strategies for relationships affected by PMDD.

Beyond the techniques, what matters most is the relationship itself. You'll work with someone who understands PMDD from the inside out and brings genuine warmth, empathy, and compassion to every session. This safe, non-judgmental space is where real healing happens — where you feel truly heard and supported as you navigate managing PMDD.

How sessions are structured

Each 45-minute session is delivered online via secure video conferencing, accessible from anywhere in Australia. Sessions are available Tuesdays and Fridays, and because PMDD is cyclical, we can adjust frequency around your luteal phase when you need the most support.

Each session is tailored to where you are in your cycle and how you are feeling that day. Some sessions focus on processing difficult emotions from a flare-up, while others focus on building skills and planning ahead.

Whether newly diagnosed or living with PMDD for years, counselling provides a space where your experience is understood. You deserve support that meets you where you are.
