About Migration

Understanding Migration Challenges

Moving to a new country brings exciting opportunities alongside complex emotional challenges that deserve proper support and understanding.

The disorientation and frustration of adapting to new social norms, systems, and expectations is a real and significant part of the migration journey that takes time to process.

It is normal to grieve what you have left behind while working to build a meaningful life where you are now. Both can exist at the same time, and that is okay.

Questions of "Who am I here?" are natural after migration. Finding a sense of self that bridges your past and present is a journey worth taking time to explore.

Isolation and loneliness are common. Building new connections and a support network in your new home takes time, strategy, and often, compassionate support.

Our counselling approach

As someone who has personally experienced migration, I understand these challenges from the inside. Migration counselling addresses the unique psychological and emotional challenges of building a life in a new country using evidence-based approaches including CBT and DBT.

We work together on processing culture shock, honouring what you have left behind, navigating identity questions, building connections, managing relationship strain, and addressing mental health challenges that emerge during the migration journey. Every challenge you are facing is real, valid, and worth exploring.

What matters most is the relationship itself. You'll work with someone who understands migration from lived experience and brings genuine warmth, empathy, and compassion to every session. This safe, non-judgmental space is where real healing happens — where you feel truly understood as you navigate building a new life.

How sessions are structured

Each 45-minute session is delivered online via secure video conferencing, accessible from anywhere in Australia. Sessions are available Tuesdays and Fridays, with flexible frequency to suit your needs. Online counselling is particularly well-suited for migrants who may be in a new city, rural area, or juggling work and settling in.

All you need is a private space, a device with a camera, and an internet connection. For many migrants, online sessions also provide privacy and confidentiality that can feel important when building your social network — no waiting room, no risk of running into someone you know.

You can access support from wherever you are in Australia. This flexibility means you can get the help you need without navigating an unfamiliar city or taking time away from settling into your new life.
