About Anxiety & Stress

Understanding Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety and stress are normal human experiences, but when they become overwhelming, they can significantly impact your quality of life.

Anxiety can feel like a constant state of alertness, with physical symptoms like racing heart, tension, and difficulty sleeping that affect your everyday functioning.

Chronic stress from work, relationships, or life transitions can build up, leaving you feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and unable to cope with daily demands.

Anxiety and stress are not signs of weakness — they are signals that you need support. With the right tools and guidance, you can learn to manage them effectively.

With evidence-based approaches like CBT and DBT, combined with compassionate support, you can build genuine resilience and rediscover calm in your life.

Our counselling approach

At Mind Sounds Counselling, we specialise in anxiety and stress counselling using evidence-based approaches proven to help you manage these challenges and build resilience. Our sessions draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to address both the thought patterns and emotional experiences that feed anxiety and stress.

CBT helps you identify and challenge the anxious thoughts that fuel worry and stress — the "what ifs" and catastrophic thinking that can feel so convincing when you are anxious. DBT adds powerful coping skills and distress tolerance techniques that help you manage stress in the moment and build lasting resilience.

Beyond the techniques, what matters most is the relationship itself. You'll work with someone who brings genuine warmth, empathy, and compassion to every anxiety and stress counselling session. This safe, non-judgmental space is where real healing happens — where you feel truly heard and supported as you learn to manage anxiety and build a calmer life.

How sessions are structured

Each 45-minute session is delivered online via secure video conferencing, accessible from anywhere in Australia. Sessions are available Tuesdays and Fridays, scheduled weekly, fortnightly, or monthly based on your needs.

Each session includes exploration of what is triggering your anxiety, practical skills work to manage stress in the moment, and planning for the week ahead. You'll leave with concrete strategies to support your recovery.

What matters most is the relationship. An empathetic, caring counsellor creates the safety and trust you need to heal. When evidence-based structure meets genuine human warmth, that's when real change happens.
